Lyra Read
DVM
Dr. Read grew up in the Boston suburbs, with cats and dogs, and spent several summers at horseback riding camp. She attended the University of Delaware for her undergraduate studies, obtaining a BS in Animal Science/Pre-veterinary medicine, and focused much of her attention on equine reproductive medicine. After taking some time off before starting vet school, Dr. Read worked in a small animal hospital where she had fantastic mentors and really grew to love the world of small animal veterinary medicine just as much as large animal. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the beautiful island of St. Kitts, completing studies at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and graduating in 2012. She then completed a one-year emergency and specialty rotating internship at Tufts VETS in Walpole, MA. From there, Dr. Read joined a local small animal hospital in Massachusetts and worked there for 10 years before opening Upper Charles Animal Hospital with Dr. Crosier.
Dr. Read lives with her husband, Jim. They have a 2 ½-year-old son named Spencer, a sassy 17-year-old torti cat named Tinkerbell, and 2-year-old sibling cats named Wally and Dutchess. They love spending time as a family, and Dr. Read loves puttering in her garden when able. Dr. Read loves focusing on preventative and wellness care, as well as long-term management of chronic illness and pain management. Soft tissue surgery is also a favorite, as well as dentistry. She looks forward to meeting you and your family!
Brooke Crosier
DVM
Dr. Crosier grew up in southern Vermont on a horse farm. It was there that she really saw the family veterinarian in action and realized that was what she wanted to do with her life. She received her BA in Biology from SUNY Geneseo in upstate New York. While in college, she spent a great deal of time traveling through the beautiful western New York countryside on farm calls, further solidifying her love of all aspects of veterinary medicine, and saw first-hand the value of fostering meaningful relationships with clients as a way to serve her patients better. She spent a semester abroad in Galway, Ireland, which she fondly recalls as some of the best months of her life.
Dr. Crosier graduated from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Upon graduation, she spent three years working at a mixed animal (large and small animal) veterinary clinic in the Adirondack region of New York State. She moved to the greater Boston area in 2013 and worked for 10 years at a small animal practice there until opening Upper Charles Animal Hospital with Dr. Read. She loves spending time with her family, including her husband, Eric. She is Mom to a 2-year-old human (Owen), a 2-year-old Corgi (George), and an 18-year-old cat (Avocado). She also enjoys running, traveling to new places, and homesteading and is proud of her large garden and a vibrant flock of backyard chickens. Dr. Crosier’s professional interests include soft tissue surgery and working up complicated internal medicine cases. She can’t wait to meet you and your pets!!
